The origin of Dickinson's Period House Shop began almost 30 years ago when Bob and Jane Dickinson began dealing in Architectural Antiques in Ludlow, Shropshire. With that business and their long experience of restoring early buildings (that included a 16th century farmhouse on the Welsh Borders, stone cottages elsewhere, a Georgian presbytery, a Georgian public house/hotel with a brewhouse and a 50s concrete panel prefabricated bungalow) they were well placed to begin sourcing and manufacturing the utility parts for the restoration, renovation and recreation of period properties, gardens and furniture. This led to the first Period House Shop, opened in Ludlow in 1996.

Another shop followed in Shrewsbury in 1997, one in Chester later the same year, a shop in Warwick in 1998 and the website, www.periodhousehops.com, in 2001.

Bob and Jane have since retired (to restore a farmhouse in France), but their legacy is carried on by Simon, their son, an engineer, (currently restoring a 14th century merchants house in Ludlow) and a colleague, Ken Green, a surveyor and architect who is putting the finishing touches to an Arts and Crafts lodge house on the Shropshire/ Herefordshire border. Simon's partner, Libby and Ken's wife, Annabel, both work in the Ludlow shop whilst Phil runs the Shrewsbury branch and Charlie that in Warwick.
